What's the point of Ulduar

What's the point of running Ulduar, Naxx, Sartharion, and malygos in 3.3? Now that heroics drop triumph badges, there's no point in running anything except TOTC25+. I don't know why blizzard thought it would be a good idea to hand out ilevel 245 epics in heroics which drop ilevel 200 blue items, it really makes no sense. Why bother doing current raids when you can get it next patch for doing heroics? There has to be better solutions for casuals to get gear other than running the same heroics for THE ENTIRE EXPANSION. Blizzard saw ahead of this knowing that the raids I listed would be pointless, so they added in weekly raids to make them slightly less pointless.

Really, couldn't you have found a better way to give casuals their welfare epics?

I've seen this question come up from time to time and it doesn't really make sense to me. Yes, lower level gear gets easier to get as time goes by, but the general point of getting the items is to get them quickly to avoid being left behind.

I think you could compare this to many items in the real world, you could wait to see if it goes on sale in the future or get it when it comes out. If waiting is your style and you are okay with that level of gear, then it's up to you when you want to play and get the gear. If you want to get the gear as soon as possible, then keep an eye out for when the patch launches and good luck!

one problem your ignoring... and it actually ties into the gearscore complaints...

people will simply run the heroics for farming badges to skip toc/ulduar/naxx and only want those with top gear to be in thier runs. they will be badge farming plain and simple. poof all that content sitting there useless and new players having a hard time getting into content because everyone is looking for a quick badge run.

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is here, but yes, with the way the emblems change from patch to patch, we don't want to force players into months of Naxxramas/Ulduar/etc. just to set foot in Icecrown Citadel. While badges may not cover every slot, they are a good boost and often players (at least currently) still run some Naxxramas and/or Ulduar when they want to gear up faster.

I understand Blizzard wants players to see all of the content so they make it easy to get current gear which allows new players to raid. But what about Naxx, Malygos, OS, Ulduar? If people can just run heroics to get ToC gear, they will most likely skip all of the previously mentioned raids. Introducing weekly raids won't help there. As a new player, I'd rather work my way up slowly like everyone else had to and then be at the same level come next expansion instead of skipping most of WotLK raid content.

Nothing personal, but I don't think you are a new player, heh. We used to force players to work their way up the ladder and it lead to barely anybody seeing the newest content along with a bunch of complaints about the content being too hard/inaccessible.

I think it's safe to say that while we want the content to be accessible, we don't want it to be forced and we are okay with players eventually leaving it behind to see new content. The weekly raids will probably help a bit for visiting the older raids as those are for emblems of frost, not triumph, and in my experience people will do almost anything for the highest emblem-tier.

TBC was one extreme, WotLK is just the complete opposite. There's got to be something in between the two don't you think? The rep grind to be able to run heroics in TBC was painful. But being able to skip two complete raid tiers doesn't seem right either.

It's a tough line to walk and that is why there have been so many iterations on the system since the original badges of justice but we do feel it has improved since then too.

Just because you and the development staff find it hard to understand, Does not mean we the players find it hard to understand.

The other part that more and more seemingly the wow development staff doesnt understand is indeed its playerbase.

It's not that we find it hard to understand it's just a "yes, that's how it works, what's the problem?" and there is no real answer to that. We understand the playerbase pretty well but what you need to keep in mind is that there are a lot of players out there, not just people on the forums and we need to keep the entire playerbase in mind when making content for the game.

Casual or not. Where's the fun in fight a raid boss, finally beating him, and getting one person in the raid an item thats not as good as you could have gotten for everyone from just farming heroics?

The item can fill in a particular slot and you can then focus on spending the emblems on other slots that are in worse shape.
