Battle.net accounts will allow us to set up a universal account system across all of our games, allowing for better contact with friends, easier management of your Blizzard game titles, access to the Blizzard store, and now the ability to log into World of Warcraft. Whether or not you're interested in these additional features -- which in time I'm confident you will be -- it still makes much more sense for us to use a universal login system for all of our games. It's the wave of the future!

Oh, and creating a Battle.net account and attaching your World of Warcraft license to it takes about as long as it took you to make this thread too. ;)
