Highlights and Headlines
Toppling The Pandas
Panda Global secured first place in Cup #1 in a convincing and cutthroat manner, but a change in personnel saw a different team in this cup. Rubcub, a Panda Global player, was removed from the roster - leaving Chanimal, Wealthyman and Roastyz to carry on with Kubzy. With Kubzy recruited they renamed themselves "Frogs in a Pond," but despite a strong team and fresh blood, the newly-formed team couldn't find the magic to make it through to the final 8. We're keen to see how Frogs in a Pond will perform in future tournaments and can't wait to see some of that epic play strategy and team spirit come alive once more.
What's In A Name?
Rubcub, removed from the Panda Global roster, was undeterred. Taking the team name with him, he formed a new team with Jellybeans, Wallabare and Rositajones. This fresh take on Panda Global flew through the bracket and made it to the quarter finals to face Splyce.
Two Tough Teams
Splyce are unquestionably tournament veterans. With the likes of Novoz and Thugonomics teamed up with Chunli and Volkazar, there was an amazing roster of talent with some unusual compositions. With Panda Global facing an experienced and well-respected team like Splyce, we knew the fight was going to be tough and we weren't wrong: these two titans had some insanely close games.
There Can Be Only One
But Panda Global met their match when they faced Tempo Storm in the semi-finals. For Tempo Storm, the 3-man roster of Jahmilli, Pikaboo, and Gorecki is stuffed full of talents; previously qualifying for the World Championships at BlizzCon twice. With that in mind, it was something of a surprise to see Tempo Storm place 5th in Cup #1, especially as they were considered the favorites. Going into Cup #2 saw a more familiar Tempo Storm; blasting their way through the brackets, beating Panda Global in the semi-finals and arriving comfortably into the finals.
Meanwhile, Panda Global fought their way back into the final, beating Splyce 3-1. They brought out Rositajones to play Mage, changing to a Warrior, Mage, Paladin formation, but it was no match for Tempo Storm. Tempo Storm beat Panda Global one more, 3-1, earning themselves a clear win, first place and 160 points. Congratulations, Tempo Storm!
