As has been pointed out, these are usually referred to as 'alt' codes, or High Ascii characters.

While those are not longer against our terms of use to use in player names, you may want to think about the difficulties they may present for others trying to communicate with you - or even send you an ingame mail.

A great deal of interaction with others goes on ingame, from sending tells, to invites, to email. If it is difficult to create your name for other players, that can result in lack of grouping opportunities and even mails that players are trying to send to you going astray.

Just something to think about before you jump onto the Alt Character bandwagon :)
