How much does it cost to upgrade RaF account?

So it looks like amazon is selling wow plus the burning crusade together for $40. Then wrath is another $40. My friend and I would like to get him into wow using the recruit a friend feature, but we are wondering how much it costs to upgrade a trial account. Is it still just $40 for a burning crusade account and then another $40 for wrath? Or will he have to purchase all three separately for $40 each? Can account keys from games purchased from say amazon or best buy be used to upgrade a trial account?

Ultimately, purchasing a Battlechest is probably going to end up being less expensive than upgrading online, if you have the option to do so, and are willing to go to a brick and morter store to pick it up or wait for it to be delivered.
