Blizzard buries the truth in fine print

After a month's hiatus from the game, I launched WoW the other day and was shocked by Blizzard's new promotion in order to get their playerbase to convert to a Battle.net account!

Imagine my excitement: converting my existing WoW account to a Battle.net account would award me a brand new penguin pet! A pet penguin is exactly what I had always wanted since I was little, so I wasted no time at all switching over so as to receive my tuxedoed friend ASAP.

So I converted my account but got no further information about receiving my penguin. I opened multiple tickets with GMs so I could provide them with mailing instructions for my new penguin friend, but the response from all of them was the same: "Soon," or "Be patient."

The next week was the slowest of my life, as I sat in my cube at work daydreaming of nothing but the satisfaction that would come from a lifetime's dream finally coming to frution: a pet penguin of my own to love and cherish!

I got home from work on Thursday and logged into WoW to do my dailies and was absolutely devastated. In my in-game mailbox was a vanity pet called "Mr. Freezy" or somesuch. A cute little digital friend, no doubt, but NOT the living, breathing penguin friend I was expecting.

At first I clinged to the hope that Mr. Freezy was just to whet my appetite and hold me over until Blizzard could send me the real deal express from Antarctica.

Then I was crushed. I went back to the login screen and read the fine print. Users who convert their WoW accounts to a Battle.net account will receive a free "in-game Penguin pet."

An In-Game Penguin Pet!! Not a real penguin :(

I have contacted lawyers and we are doing our best to find out if a Class Action lawsuit on behalf of the player base deceived by this promotion is a possibility. I still cling to the hope that Blizzard will provide me with what is rightfully mine: a Penguin friend of my own.

In the meantime though, please read the fine print and be aware that Blizzard has no intention of providing you with a real live penguin. Just another vanity pet that you and everybody else can walk around with in Dalaran.

Has anybody else been deceived by this wholly deceptive promotion? Post here and commiserate. If you are interested in being a party to my class action lawsuit I will provide you with contact information and we can take Blizzard Entertainment to court for our penguins.

I have 12 million penguins sleeping soundly in my bedroom. YOU CANNOT HAS.
