It's rumored that Game Masters of yore once gathered annually to recite poetry to the peoples of Azeroth, describing epic tales of item restorations, daring stuck character rescues, and policy enforcement through verse and limerick.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Game Master poetry was substantially worse than Vogon poetry, so all future performances were canceled. =/

...No? Not buying it? Yeah, me neither. ;)

Game Masters will occasionally appear in-game, Azeri. While the nature of our role ensures that most of our time is dedicated to the resolution of issues which occur behind the scenes, our involvement in the actual world is not just some sort of urban legend. In fact, we greatly enjoy getting to "reveal" ourselves and interact with the natives (so to speak).

We do keep all players' interests in mind, though, and strive to provide the best service possible. At times, appearing in-game is not always the most appropriate or time-efficient method of contact, but, if it is, we'll be sure to stop by and tip our proverbial hat. Just keep an eye out!

Are there GM's on every server? I'm curious if there is one that hangs out on mine.

Game Masters are not realm-specific, Zemmiphobia. Our in-game representatives will address incoming petitions from all realms (except for those on which they play) in the order that they are received. :)

In other words, could I one day be getting into a group and unknowingly be playing with a GM?

It's certainly possible. There are indeed quite a few of us. :)

Lovely, I might be in the middle of fighting a major boss or something and next thing I know everyone but one person in the raid might be a sheep or something! lol That would certainly be an interesting boss fight.

Well, we don't play when on the clock, and when we're off the clock, we're just normal players—we've no access to the tools which are necessary to the Game Master position. There's no way you'd be able to tell us apart from every other denizen of Azeroth, and that's because we're not any different. Heck, we're even held to the same policies as you, albeit to a higher standard. :)

GM Island is confirmed to have existed, it no longer exists now

You seem so certain of that. :)

It was a battle for Halaa and this blood elf paladin totally beat me and when I clicked on him coming back he had the GM tag.

This wasn't a play character of a Game Master, Scoota. It was likely just a player who'd been recently helped out by an in-game representative. It's very common for us to temporarily "borrow" a character to facilitate a quick restoration and, unfortunately, sometimes the "GM" tag will persist for a bit after.

If you ever see a play character with this tag, please feel free to drop us a line via petition so that we can ensure it's addressed appropriately. :)

On the other hand, if one turns you into a gnome, showers you with rose petals and flies you around, feel free to enjoy it. :)

Precisely!

Hehe, Scoota.

Hm. I'm not sure where or why it developed, but I've an awful habit of inserting uninvited Cs after Sc in names—Shmoo can vouch for this. I still hold that the "C" is for cookie, which is always good enough for me. :P
