End of the Summer Fun in Azeroth

We’ve been having fun all summer long. As we look back and bid farewell to a fine, warm time spent in the sun, we can’t help but look for one last circuit around the pool before school starts. Come along with us as we travel all across Azeroth counting down the top five fun stops on your end-of-summer trip.

#5 – Roll Club: Serpent’s Spine (Vale of Eternal Blossoms)

There’s a pretty great wall in Pandaria, and you can roll down it for fun and profit. Okay sure, there isn’t actually any profit in it. There is, however, a quest!

If you’ve never seen this before, you’re in for a treat. Head to the western end of Vale of Eternal Blossoms and speak to Kelari Featherfoot to get started.

Go for the:
Rolling.
Jumping while rolling.
Speed rolling.
Hard turns.
Sheer joy of getting dizzy and then starting it again.

#4 – Dominate the Lake (Wintergrasp)

It’s been a few years since most everyone cleared out of Wintergrasp and found warmer climes and newer battles. Still, the war rages on around this frozen body of water, and cooling off while driving huge siege engines around is glorious. Glorious!

Make the most of it by steering your family roadster(1) up to Wintergrasp, then look to the center of your screen for a UI notification about when the next battle starts once you’re in the zone. As soon as you can, go commandeer a vehicle or a turret and blast your way around until dusk.

Go for the:
Huge shot of nostalgia.
Bombardment.
Pretty good fishing, mining, and herb picking, now that you mention it.
Nice surprise when you find a few enemies to fight.

#3 – The Fishing Extravaganza (Stranglethorn Vale)

What summer vacation would be complete without a fishing excursion? This Sunday, take the kids to Stranglethorn Vale and try to win the weekly Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. Check the in-game calendar for your exact start time, and then get there early! At the very least, get there early enough to set your hearthstone to Booty Bay and locate a prime fishing spot before the mayhem begins.

The first person in the zone to turn in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait in Booty Bay gets their choice among several fantastic grand prizes. One of those is the fabled Hook of the Master Angler, a trinket that turns you into a frenzyfish! You should probably choose that one when you win.

Go for the:
Family bonding time.
Most exciting PvP ever.
Most fishing-pole-related PvP ever.
Crazy moment when you get your 40th Speckled Tastyfish, then drag your hearthstone off the action bar because you’re so excited about turning them in.

#2 – Make Yourself Bigger or Smaller (Gadgetzan and other places)

It’s hard to overstate how fun it can be to go on an excursion where the result is a significantly smaller or bigger you. Patch 6.2 brought the Ghostly Iron Buccaneer’s Hat to the game, and many folks noticed that it turns you into a very large skeleton. Hallow’s End is coming up soon, so you can see where this is going.

Wowhead has everything you need to know in order to acquire the following:
World Enlarger / World Shrinker
Elixir of Giant Growth / Winterwall Firewater
Tosselwrench’s Shrinker
Vrykul Drinking Horn

This is truly fun for the entire family. Take the kids to Gadgetzan and buy some Noggenfogger Elixir from Sprinkle Noggenfogger! Drink it and see what happens. What could go wrong?

Go for the:
Cure to your size complex.
Inception of a whole new size complex for you.
Feeling of finally being intimidating for the very first time.(2)

#1 – The Log Ride (Grizzly Hills)

Seriously, there’s a log ride in Northrend?! Yes. There’s a log ride in Northrend, and it’s a blast. Don’t forget to take your S.E.L.F.I.E stick. Jump on a log and ride the whitewater and take pictures and scream with delight! Hold on tight.

To saddle up a log of your own, visit Gordun or Dorrak at Bluesky Logging Camp in Grizzly Hills. The ride goes all the way to Venture Bay, and the memories last a lifetime.

Go for the:
Rapids.
Moisture.(3)
Feeling of a big log between your legs.
Moment when you disembark and take your first few woozy steps.

It Won't Be Long ‘til Summertime is Through

There you have it: the Top Five Summertime Vacation Activities in Azeroth. You aren’t limited to five, however, and we’d like to know what else you’ll be doing to wind down travel season. Let us know in the comments below.

We hope to see you on that log ride!

(1) What is a family roadster, anyway? Is that like a country squire station-wagon?
(2) These reasons for doing this activity not intended to indicate the presence of any psychological concerns. Don’t think about any of this too much.
(3) Please note that we said “moisture”, not “moist”. There’s a difference.
