How does blizzard lose money doing blizzcon?

So i just read this article saying that blizzard loses money doing blizzcon?

how is that possible if you guys sold out in less than a minute and sold so much on directtv(me and a few friends i know bought the directtv thing, STILL WAITING FOR MY MURLOC!!!)?
