We implemented a hotfix last night that resolved what was causing these issues. Since this hotfix all realms have been performing as normal. We are continuing to monitor all realms and will investigate any further issues should they arise.

We are aware of the stability issues affecting several realms and instances this evening and are actively working toward addressing these matters as quickly as possible. Additional updates will be provided as they are made available. In the mean time, your patience during this process is greatly appreciated.

We've received word that some players have had success resolving their log in issues by performing a full user interface reset. While this resolution is by no means guaranteed to resolve a log in issue that you are experiencing, it seems to have been effective in many cases and should be worth a try.

Please note that this procedure will remove your installed Addons. It is a good idea to save your Addons folder in a safe location, and refrain from reinstalling any Addons until you've had the opportunity to test this issue.

Here are the steps:

Q u o t e:

1) *IMPORTANT* Exit the World of Warcraft to your desktop by logging out of the game and exiting. If World of Warcraft isn't closed, then these steps won't have the desired effect.

2) If you used an "installer" for a custom UI, see if it has an "uninstaller" and use it.

3) Inside the World of Warcraft Program Folder, delete the "WTF," "Cache," and "Interface" folders.

4) Restart your computer.

5) Please do not reinstall Addons prior to testing the issue you were experiencing.

6) Make sure that you are using WOW.EXE or LAUNCHER.EXE to start the game. Please do not run any UI installers beforehand, as we want to eliminate them as part of the issue.

7) Upon launching the game, you should see the Intro cinematic movie and be prompted to agree to the Terms of Use. Once you authenticate past the login screen, the “AddOns” button should no longer be visible at the lower left corner of the character selection screen. Both points mentioned previously must hold true if you should complete the aforementioned steps correctly.

Blizzard doesn't even expect that it will work. They are just trying to get people to waste time trying various things that obviously won't fix the problems.

This is actually incorrect. There's a perception that we will suggest various resolutions to 'kill time' or distract our players. Such measures would be needless, as doing so would serve no functional purpose for anyone involved.

Our only goal in these situations is to help our players get back to enjoying World of Warcraft as fast as we can. In this case, many players have already reported success with the reset, so I provided it with the caveat that it will not be effective in all cases. There is no 'stalling for time' involved, and this resolution was posted purely in an effort to help those players for whom the resolution might be effective.

We will continue to work to resolve the various issues affecting the realms as swiftly as we can, and we express our deep apologies for any delays. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.

Q u o t e:
Blizzard fails. No restarts. No updates for hours. And still horrible lag. I guess it really is time to take up a new hobby. I'm going to find something to do. Peace. Its been real.

If a simple restart would resolve the issue, Lacii, we would do one. Sometimes just a simple restart will help, say when the Zeppelins don't show up on a realm, restarting the realm will usually resolve the issue and return the Zeppelins to their appropriate paths.

Many restarts that occur in the wee hours of the morning are so an implemented change can take effect; like when you update your system at home and restart your computer.

In this case, though our technicians are actively working on the overall issues that folks are experiencing we do not currently have a resolution. When we do it will be implemented with haste.

I am truly sorry for the frustration and inconvenience this issue has caused and thank you for your continued patience while it is sorted out. If I am given any new information i will pass it along.

While I understand the level of frustration experienced by many I must remind you to please keep your posts civil and on topic.

Hi, I see that Blizzard have realm maintenances planned for 5am server. Meanwhile a entire Battlegroup sits on its collective finger unable to do anything except spam trade chat.

Seriously Blizzard get your priorities right. This issue needs to be fixed now not at some regulary scheduled time.

Seriously, Cyreall, can you please attempt to read what has been posted thus far before making such assumptions? You may follow the Blue posts by clicking on the blue Blizz symbol, that will take you to the next Blizzard Poster reply.

Aww how cute.. He is getting angry.

*laughs* Hardly, Justchilling. I'm just trying to point out that such information is incorrect.

These issues are frustrating but what usually makes people more understanding is the knowledge that at the very least we are doing everything we can to resolve the issues as quickly as we can. To suggest, incorrectly, that we have a resolution but are waiting to implement it until the announced restarts simply serves to aggravate people.

I think we have enough aggravation for one day without incorrect information being passed around.

I get an error message. "Login server down." Is the actual login server down or is there some other issue going on here? This is for Boulderfist server.

It looks like Northrend went offline briefly, it is recovering now.

seems fixed

It has become a bit better on many realms but I wouldn't say the issue has been resolved yet.

Our Technicians believe they found at least one of the issues that is causing the unexpected latency and log in delays. They are working on a resolution to improve the conditions though I still don't have an estimate on when that will be accomplished.
