In California there are two classes of motorcycle licenses, Class M1 and Class M2; an M2 license allows you to operate mopeds motor scooters motorized bicycles/any sort of bicycle with a mother attached to it while a class M1 license is what you would need to operate a 2-wheel motorcycle – there are other differences, most of which deal with engine size (more than 150cc engine, I believe). I don’t know how it works everywhere, but in California a Class M1 or M2 is added to any other class license after passing law and skill tests. Likewise, if I were to only have a Class C license, would not legally be permitted to operate a motorcycle.
