Paladin Class Needs a Complete Overhaul

The class has been fundamentally broken ever since Vanilla WoW beta in that at it's core it is still an auto attacking melee class with 2 healing spells, with everything added on since then basically just bandaids that do little to cover up this glaring design flaw.

Why has Retribution continued to be such an ENORMOUS challenge in balancing when it's playstyle is so pathetically simple? Basically it comes down to 3 factors: seals, DPS tools, and the fundamental class design.

Seals have become far too powerful, dealing the largest percentage of our DPS over any of our special attacks when they should be aiding these. Because of this, Seals have become too vital to our DPS viability, and any small change to this can quickly overpower us or consequently break us in one or more aspects of the game as has been made abundantly clear this patch. Seal damage needs to be SIGNIFICANTLY toned down and be more of an aid to our DPS like DK runeforging for example instead of being so vital to it that it can break the spec.

As stated earlier, at it's core Paladins have no real instant strikes as do every other melee class, making leveling extremely boring and tedious. Our strikes are all talented and for the most part resemble weaker versions of the baseline attacks of other melee classes. In addition, the fact that our entire DPS rotation basically consists of just 3-4 attacks that build upon nothing means our rotation literally consists of just spamming any button as soon as it's off the GCD which requires no skill whatsoever, even less so now that Crusader Strike weaker and must be spammed faster now than before.

Are you truely suprised Ret burst was so high when we only had 3-4 damage abilities that by definition had to be packed with so much power in order for our burst and damage to be viable? The fundamental problem was we had so few attacks that relied on the massive seal damage to make up for this. By giving Paladins more attacks alongside toning down seal damage, Ret balancing could actually enter the realms of possibility.

Bottom line, the whole class, Retribution in particular, is a mess. The problems are painfully obvious and will only continue to get worse as long as the seals, the lack of attacks, and the fundamentally flawed class design remain the same. Tiny bandaid fixes a few patches at a time is not going to even come close to fixing the overall problem, the class needs a complete overhaul if there is to be any hope whatsoever of finally balancing the class the way it needs to be.

This is mostly a QQ thread. As I say every now and then, as soon as you're looking for a class overhaul, you're probably looking for something different in the class than we are offering. "This coffee doesn't taste like a milkshake at all. It needs more milk and chocolate. And less gin."

Paladins have gotten an enormous amount of attention this expansion. While there are still some things we want to improve in the class, I do find the it a little suspicious that so many of the "I don't like my core mechanics" threads come after big damage nerfs.

If you are one of those people who have always posted about paladin mechanics, even when they were overpowered, then I'm not speaking to you. Then again, make sure you're not looking for something totally different in the class.

Sure, but in spite of the unreasonable demand for a revamp, there's some good points to be gleaned here.

Yeah, that's why we didn't lock it. Maybe it can continue its evolution into a higher life form.
