Common Display Issues

Often times after a patch, user interface (UI) files can become corrupt or out-dated. These issues most commonly affect custom AddOns or modifications (such as QuestHelper, Bartender, etc). Without clearing out these "old" custom UI files, one may encounter major display issues such as items "disappearing," not being able to see in-game chat, being unable to whisper other players, and many other unpleasant situations.

While simply disabling or updating your AddOns may resolve these discrepancies, the only means by which to guarantee that a given issue is not being caused by the UI is to fully reset it.

With the game closed please try moving or deleting your WTF, Cache, and Interface folders out of your World of Warcraft directory. These are temporary files that will be recreated by the game the next time you launch. Moving them to the desktop makes it easy to replace them if necessary.

Step by step guides for your operating system can be found below.

Windows XP/2000
-Click the Start button, select Programs, select Accessories and select Windows Explorer.
-In the new window click the + beside the My Computer option, this should expand a list.
-Click the + beside the Hard Disk with the (C:) label on the end (Or whichever Hard Disk the game was installed on).
-Click the + beside Program Files.
-Scroll down until you find World of Warcraft in the list and double click it.
-In the panel on the right there should be a list of files and folders, the WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders should be in this list.
-Single click one of those folders and it should become highlighted, once that folder is highlighted press the Delete key on your keyboard. Do this for all three folders.
-Once the three folders have been deleted you can close Windows Explorer.
-Start the game again using the World of Warcraft Launcher to see if this helps resolve your issue.

Windows Vista
-Click the Start button, select All Programs, select Accessories and select Windows Explorer.
    - If the UAC is enabled, which it is by default, then the system will also be caching these three folders. Towards the top of the Windows explorer window should be a Link labeled "Virtual store", please click on this. In the Virtual store folder, please check if there is a World of Warcraft folder, and if so please delete the three folders WTF, Cache and Interface from this location as well.
-Once these extra three folders have been deleted you can close Windows Explorer.
-You will need to restart your system at this point.
-Start the game again using the World of Warcraft Launcher, when starting the game right click on the game icon, and select Run As Administrator. This will make sure that any settings you change in game are saved correctly.

Mac OS X
-Click on the desktop and then the Go menu on the top.
    -Click Applications.
-Scroll down to World of Warcraft and select it.
-Right-click (Control+click if you own a 1-button mouse) on the Cache folder and select Move to Trash.
-Perform the above step for the Interface and WTF folder as well.
-Double-click the World of Warcraft application to launch the game and verify if the issue has been resolved.

If your issue persists after resetting your UI and you possess an Intel GMA 965 or ATI video card, please review the following threads:

"Stuck" Characters

It has come to our attention that some players are becoming "stuck" during game play. This can take several forms: being stuck in limbo, floating in space, trapped on terrain, locked at a loading screen, or disconnecting repetitively once within the in-game world.

Recently, many players have also reported that they are becoming "stuck" after zoning into one the various wings of the Crusaders' Coliseum. This occurs when a player who is not in a raid group attempts to enter either the 10- or 25-man wing of the Coliseum instead of the 5-man wing. To help prevent this issue, if you wish to access our Trial of Champion 5-man dungeon, please look for the purple portal to the north, and if you wish to enter either our Trial of Crusader or Trial of the Grand Crusader 10- or 25-man raids, please look for the green portal to the east, nearest the meeting stone.

If you are stuck in "limbo," but are still able to log into the game, then you may be able to free yourself with some help. You could try one of these resolutions:

  • Ask a friendly Warlock to summon you
  • Ask friends to summon you at a level-appropriate Meeting Stone
  • Use the "Auto Unstuck" feature accessed via the In-Game Knowledge Base

If these methods prove ineffective or are unavailable to you, then it would be best to submit an in-game petition from a different character on the same account. When you submit such a petition, it's best to include the following points:

  • Name and realm of the stuck character
  • Your character's location
  • Whether you are stuck at the loading screen, are unable to remain in-game, are trapped on terrain, or fell "through the world"
  • The word "stuck"

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and hope that you're able to get back into the game very soon!

"Missing" Titles

If your character possesses more than 6 titles, you will see a new scrolling side bar on the drop down menu in your Character pane (default: "C"). This change is to ensure that all titles belonging to your character will display within the drop down menu appropriately.

As a result, your drop down menu will be shortened, so it may appear as though some of your titles are missing. Please make sure to check for the scrolling side bar first, as your titles may simply be out of view. If the scrolling bar is not present and not all titles are displaying, it's best to proceed with a reset of your UI (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=18761).

XT-002 Deconstructor

We are aware of the concerns related to XT-002 Deconstructor and the increased number of "adds" he was spawning. This issue should be now be resolved, and the appropriate number of "adds" should spawn.

If your group was saved to an instance prior to this issue being hotfixed, it's possible that you may still encounter additional add spawns until the next weekly reset.

Flying Mount Issues

We're presently aware of an issue which is preventing many players from using their flying mounts in Northrend and the Outland. If you are receiving the message "You can't use that here" when attempting to use a normal flying mount for which you possess the appropriate skill in a non-restricted zone, please submit an in-game petition and a Game Master will be happy to assist.
