Now, before other paladins come into this topic to whine about me spoiling some big secret, know this. If there is anything I think I or other players have discovered for being clever or some new little trick to make myself that much better the Devs always know about it.
For all the non Paladins, here is the change to the Paladin taunt that came with the patch:
Hand of Reckoning: Redesigned. Now does damage only when the target does not currently have the caster targeted, but damage done increased to 50% of attack power, occurring after the taunt effect is applied.
That roughly translates to a 2k non crit hit. Before I go on know this:
IT DOES NOT WORK ON PVP TARGETS!!!
Now, I want to ask the Devs what their stance is on taunt immune bosses being a prime target for Hand of Reckoning spam. Currently I have a separate Judgement macro that uses both Judgement and HoR. (since it's off the GCD) I'll name a few Ulduar fights that Hand of Reckoning has proved useful on.
1. Razorscale landing (the first one, she'll be taunt immune for the second one if you spam it there)
2. XT Heart
3. Kologarn Arms
4. Hodir Iceblocks
5. Freya Trees
6. Mimiron Phase 2 and chest on phase 4 (HUGE here)
7. General, the whole fight
8. Yogg after Phase 1. It's clutch in the brain room.
Though the uses are few and far between, the fights I can use HoR typically have me averaging between 500-600 extra dps. That adds up pretty quick. It's not breaking our damage in my opinion, it actually seems to able to boost me up to above average dps spot instead of the average spot I was finding myself in when I can't taunt.
So what's the deal Blizz? Is it a creative use of game mechanics? Is it a bug? Are you monitoring our dps this way in hopes of seeing if Ret DPS is too low without it? Any clarification would be nice.
