Fourth time I've had a blue post in one of my threads.

Are you off the clock or something because you're basically just trolling.

I'm trying to keep things at the "civil banter with the community while off the clock" level more so than the "I might need to watch out for flying spit at BlizzCon" volume. :p

so sick of this, release wether or not patch is going live or not. Keeping people wondering is just torturing the masses and makes it aggrevating as a player. God when will someone please release a better game. I cant take this dev community another year.

That doesn't seem like a necessary attitude. I'd certainly hope your emotional investment in this post stems from your emotional investment in the game. I wouldn't know any other way to read a post written out of such frustration.

I surely hope you're having fun in the game if you're still playing it, just as I hope you're still playing it if you're posting with this level intensity. If you're having fun, go play it (as I am now). The patch will come when it comes.

Can you explain why Blizzard doesn't announce the night before if patches are coming, or not coming? If not, can you say "I'm not allowed to comment on that" so I know there's some stupid bureaucracy at work?

There is never 100% certainty even when it seems there's 100% certainty. Applying a patch to all of our realms is a very complicated process with scores of variables. There are constantly quality assurance checks being done to determine whether or not a build is ready for release; and even then there's a list of known minor bugs with which the build will be released and possibly unknown bugs.

It just doesn't work out well if we provide you with any sort of date. Now some will take my response to this post as veiled confirmation of a patch coming soon. I'm actually responding because I read Grayle's thread and he asked an interesting question about forum moderation and patch speculation threads. The reason we generally leave those alone is because players will sometimes insert reason into our moderation practices. In other words, deleting all the "patch tomorrow" threads may only exacerbate the chatter. The same goes for "patch not tomorrow" threads.

In general, we like that players are discussing the release of a patch. It means you're excited about the game and its future. So while we do sometimes give some type of warning if a major change is going to be made that will affect a large percentage of players (i.e. the end of an Arena season or the removal of a meta-achievement reward), we will give it even if it's just a rough time frame.

But for the most part, is it really harmful to the community that we do not announce the release of a patch until it's already in motion and we've hit the point of no return? ;)

Tell me Zarhym, is keeping your player base in the dark some dark orchestrated conspiracy, or do you all bring your computers to Kalgan's basement the night before patch nights to see who can dig up the best forum posts before it goes live? If so, how high on the totem poll does one have to be to get invited to a Blizzard LAN party? Does Kalgan's girlfriend make excellent cookies?

lol

Waffles mean that the patch is tomorrow.
Pancakes mean that it isn't.

Ha! Now he won't answer!

Funny, whenever my girlfriend and I go to breakfast, she's the one that gets the waffles or pancakes. I'm a simple eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns kinda guy.

Maybe Moons Over My Hammy if I'm feeling frisky.

Oh, and I honestly couldn't tell you if she prefers waffles to pancakes. She's quite the fan of both when the toppings are right.

So you get paid to play wow and troll the forums . . . man that would be sweet

I'm not at work at the moment. I just haven't had a lot of time to post on the forums at work lately. BlizzCon has had us all very busy. ^.^

Does your girlfriend play wow often?

No, at least she plays very irregularly. We've been together longer than I've worked for Blizzard and she only started playing right before Wrath was released. She has a level 71 Shadow priest and likes her eggs over medium.

Well, as in it's not keeping me busy at this exact moment. Once I leave work, I typically go to my cave and find my power animal.

Does she whine about Dispersion all the time yet?

She's not really invested in the game in that way. It's usually those brief moments in the year when life slows down for a moment that she's able to relax and play without feeling like she should be reading or studying. So she often has questions about basic game mechanics more so than she has criticisms about class mechanics. I'm not sure if she picked the easiest class to level given her experience with games, but she was totally sold on the draenei priest.
