If anyone can answer my question, why did Blizzard change Alterac Valley to its current form? I mean now it is more of a race to the generals instead of the glorious defense of them like in the previous version (not the original one with the trolls and trogg villages).

Alterac Valley exists, in its current form, due to changes made in order to balance and streamline the encounters players have in the battleground. We also weren't happy with the duration to honor ratios prior to changes made to the battleground.

Why would it need to be streamlined if so many players were happy with the way that it was?

Many players were upset with the design of Alterac Valley and they were vocal. Upon testing, we concluded that the playerbase would be better served by a more standard arrangement. Thus, adjustments were made.

Couldn't you just scale honor gained in the BG with how long you were participating? You know, like the concept of bonus honor?

There are more to battlegrounds than just honor. Marks, quests, time and participation are just some of the factors that we have to make certain remain in line with our overall design goals. By adjusting this to make it worth X amount of honor, we may make a battleground too attractive or not attractive enough. We tend to like that battlegrounds do not require hours to complete. It makes them fun portions of the game to enter into on occasion or dive into for a full weekend of carnage.
