If your friend did an Electronic Upgrade then they will still experience some trial restrictions, such as not being able to join a guild or freely private chat people, for up to 72 hours while the charge for the upgrade finalizes.
His leveling and skill restrictions should be removed however so he can continue leveling up.
The triple experience is available if the recruitee and recruiter are in a group together. there are restrictions on this however. The monster being killed most yield experience for both people, and the players can not be 4 levels or more apart from each other.

You should see your experience gained, with a notation of how much of it was from the Recruit-A-Friend bonus.
