Taken from the Patch notes sticky in the PTR forum

Q u o t e:
Seal of Vengeance and Seal of Corruption: These seals have been redesigned to deal substantially more damage. Now, once a paladin has 5 copies of the debuff from these seals on his or her target, on each swing the paladin will deal 33% weapon damage as Holy, with critical strikes dealing double damage. In addition, the damage-over-time effect is now considered a melee attack instead of a spell attack and the effects from these seals can only be triggered by auto-attacks and Hammer of the Righteous.

Wow.... So I guess this seal isn't inteded for use by ret paladins at all. This is a complete step backwards from the entire seal system change that came with WoTLK.

SoC sucks, hands down. They've lowered our burst across the board, given us nothing in return, and now are forcing us into SoC.

I'm not a FOTM reroller,

I've been a paladin (on this toon) since Vanilla wow, prot, holy, and ret.

And honestly, I'm sick of the constant changes, regardless if it's based from Community QQ or a change in dev philosophy.

It's not my fault you dont know what to do with the class

and honestly, I'm sick of being in the middle of your indecision, much less having a change this significant and far reaching come this late in the development cycle, and be snuck in the patch notes in a more than questionable fashion.

Can you please explain the logic, or atleast the future intent for the ret class?

Because we were all under the impression SoV was the new go to seal,
and you've suddenly reverted it to the pre-WoTLK seal system,
and nerfed its damage almost compeltely in both PvE and PvP realms.

I don't want to faceroll. It's not my fault how this class is designed. but to wake up every day and see your spec heading in a different direction is just sickening.

Anyways, unless something changes. I'm off to play my shaman or my rogue. because this is just stupid.

Only white attacks can stack the Sea of Vengeance / Corruption dot. However special abilities should still trigger the bonus weapon damage. I'm not sure the current PTR build you have reflects that last bit.

The goal was not to nerf Ret for PvE. We do want the ramp up time to be significant for PvE or it won't solve the PvP problem we're trying to fix. However, once you get the stack up, your damage should be pretty decent. On very short kills (say trash or something like Thorim arena) you won't be able to get the full benefit from the dot, but any class with a finishing move typically loses that damage as well. Balance is important for both short and long fights, but it's normal to use different rotations or abilities for those two extremes. (In other words, we're okay with a long ramp up time for this ability.)

We will continue to monitor Ret numbers coming out of the PTR and even once the patch goes live and make changes if necessary.

Q u o t e:
We've been monitoring numbers all weekend for you. Please instead of leaving ret to be the last bandaid on the PTR before it's slapped to live, take some time to FIX retribution.

Which is why we made the change to let special attacks benefit from the bonus weapon damage. We don't send every one our builds up to the PTR, and the PTR data is often behind our internal builds.

On the other hand, we are seeing a spike in the victimized / woe is Ret posts. If this was intended to be one of them, I implore you to please not go there. The posts that got our attention on this topic were those that estimated the dps loss, not the ones about how we don't care about Ret or don't know what to do with paladins or whatever. Those are the posts we tend to skip over.

Really? I mean honestly why don't you just outright stop lying to us. Thats exactly what you are doing. 4+ years since release, and with each new patch the evidence stacks up even further that you people are either clueless, don't care, or still haven't made up your minds as to the direction of the Paladin class in General.

Sigh. If this is your contribution to our forums, then plan on not being able to contribute for a few days.

If you're raging, I'd suggest going to a hilltop somewhere and yelling. Don't bring it here.

Please don't make me waste my time or that of other players reading these threads by having to deal with forum moderation. I'm not going to mention inappropriate responses again in this thread. We will just remove them.

I'll expand the post limit, but I suggest not making so many posts that are just quoting other posts. That's a good way to hit a thread cap without contributing anything to the conversation.
