Brute force account names and passwords. After 11 trillion tries, they finally get one.

What you see now is 4 years of 24/7 sweatshop-brute-forcing in action by 60% of the population of China.

No. Actually, brute force attacks of World of Warcraft accounts are virtually nonexistent. To put it another way: we've never confirmed one, and there are mechanisms in place to prevent them.

The real danger to an account's security lay in keyloggers, account sharing and phishing attempts. Some of the best methods to protect your World of Warcraft account are: good web security, keeping your account information strictly confidential, and remaining alert, aware and cautious. Never provide your account password to anyone else at all for any reason, ever, period.

You can review these threads for some very useful advice on keeping your account secure:

A Blizzard Authenticator can bring not only a valuable layer of added security for your account, but peace of mind as well.
You can find out more about the Authenticator via this FAQ, the second link leads to the Blizzard store where you can purchase an Authenticator of your own:

There has to be more to this then just going on bad sites...

I've never bought gold, or had power leveling or any other "bought service" out side of WoW. Never did anything wrong..

I wake up one morning, I can't log in.. My account is frozen, can't do anything to it. I call, they're closed.. All my characters are stripped before Blizzard helped (but help me get everything back.).. The thing is, not everyone who gets hacked goes onto cheat/gold selling/power leveling sites.

I'm sure im not the only one whose been hacked that is completely innocent of committing the crime of "cheating".

No one said anything about 'cheating' being the only way to get an account compromised, but there are multiple ways to pick up a keylogger. For example, simply playing on a shared, un-secured machine can put your account information at risk, as you have no way of moderating what other users do on that system.

Or... brute force?

I've been using a computer as long as I can remember.. Commador 64 with BBS... I dont fall for that crap.. My machine is secure 100%. Always has been, I used IRC and had the whole "HAH I DDS YOU" and had my router expodes and ruined.. I've delt with everything. .. I NEVER went to websites, never answered Wow's emails, never did anything. I dont even reply to your "Survey's" you give after a ticket are sent in.

And to be honest one of my passwords would look like this:

F9r7Rfn8LD1

(Thats not a password to anything but thats what I use... and I still got hacked.)

No. Brute force is not a realistic option for a compromise, and I already responded to that assertion here:
