Is There A Point To Heirloom Trinkets..?

So ive been playing around with what heirloom item id want next for an alt, and a I took a look at the trinkets... Now, my question is, whats the point of getting them? 50 emblems is kind of a lot, and they just dont seem worth it. A small amount of sp/haste, and when you kill something thats 2% of your mana/health, which seems insignifigant. Is there really even a point for these things to exist?
When leveling a new character there is a rather large gap at the beginning of the game where there are no trinkets available so these help fill those slots pretty well. Also, since they scale with level, if there is a point where your current non-heirloom trinket is just too weak you can switch back to get the consistent bonus of the heirloom trinkets.

They definitely did in the past, to my knowledge this hasn't change so they should still stack just like the mana bonus trinkets.
