Q u o t e:
If I make a battlenet account will the battlenet account name and password be my WoW login name and password?
Once you merge your World of Warcraft account with your Battle.net account, you will use your Battle.net account name and password for each following client and Account Management login.
Whenever you set up your Battle.net account, you will select its username (email address), password, and Secret Question/Answer.
Q u o t e:
And does the battlenet account name and password have to be my email account name and password?
Your Battle.net account name will be the email address you used to set up the account. So, whenever you log into our game client or Account Management page and are asked to provide your account name, you'll type in the email address that's associated with your Battle.net account.
Your Battle.net password does not have to be the same one you use for your email address, though. In fact, it's better if they're two different passwords, as this can increase the security of your Battle.net account.
Q u o t e:
I'm wondering all this because I'm starting feel, due to some recently discovered information and a gut feeling, that I'm going to have to have a battlenet account to get Grunty the Murloc Marine
This is correct. :)
