ASCII Characters in Names

Hi,

I've been noticing a lot of character names that have odd ASCII characters. I.e., my name could be spelled:

-- Raimundo (no special characters);
-- Raìmúndõ (3 special characters);
-- RÆmundó (2 special characters).

While there are a lot of creative variations, I have a few questions.

1) Is it legal to use odd ASCII characters in names?
2) Do people use these names to avoid others targetting them in battlegrounds, or is there another reason? (i.e., to get a coveted name someone already chose)
3) Are there any addons that help you to communicate with people who have such odd names?

Thanks

1) Currently, yes.
2) No, it honestly carries far more disadvantages than advantages, but people seem to use these characters to acquire names that would otherwise be unavailable.
3) If so, I'm unaware of them. You could check out UI & Macros forum though!
