Recruit a Friend not prompting for the Key

I sent my friend a recruit a friend invitation.
My friend received the invite and followed the instructions to the letter, but at no point is prompted for the recruit a friend key they received in the email.
After running the downloaded "TryWoW.exe" there is a short installation and then they are taken straight to the Trial Launcher with Options, Support, a greyed out Public Test and Play buttons.
Then after hitting "Play" they are taken to the WOW login screen.

Where does my friend need to go to create the recruit a friend trial account?

They are currently running on a brand new laptop with Vista installed.
