Morning, Roselia. :)
First, I'd like to dispel a few rumors and provide a bit of clarity.
- We've recently implemented a new system which works to detect specific security risks on computers from which World of Warcraft accounts are accessed. Unfortunately, one of these risks was detected on a computer from which the account in question was accessed. To help prevent this account from being compromised, we've locked it temporarily (for a period of 24 hours) and issued a password reset. This should give you enough time to secure the account and those computers from which it is played.
- While access to your account has indeed been disabled for 24 hours, it has not been penalized in any way. This temporary lockout is not a suspension or a form of punishment. It is simply a means of prevention and protection against possible compromise.
- This system is not exhaustive; it will not detect or react to all possible threats, so it's not an excuse to bypass at-home security. It can, however, work to prevent very select forms of compromise.
I sincerely encourage you, Roselia, to follow the advice we've provided within the notification email you've quoted. It is for the betterment and security of your account and those characters and inventories on it. For additional security tips and suggestions, please see the following thread:
Please note that this detection system will encompass
all computers from which your account may be accessed; if multiple parties typically access your account, ensure that they are aware of this risk and take the appropriate steps to identify and remove it.
If you've any further questions, please let me know.
