Can't tame a new pet

I have a lvl 22 hunter and I've had the same cat as my pet since lvl 10. I wanted to train a new pet since the cat is so slow it is always way behind me. I bought a slot at the stable and stabled the cat. I went out and tried to tame a new pet but I keep getting the message that I have to many pets already. What should I do?

Are you certain that you moved your pet into the stable, Àbbaðon? It seems that it is currently your active pet.

When I looked, Àbbaðon, your cat appeared in the left most box, which is your active pet. You need to have it in the next slot over.
