Battle.net hacked and merged...

Last week my account was (like many others) hacked and merged into a battle.net account. I tried all week to speak with someone from blizz on the phone but waiting for 2 hours gets old. I finally got my account back yesterday. Of course I have plenty of lvl 1 toons with stupid names on quite a few servers now. And my main, druid, is naked and stripped and all my gear has been de'd probly. I submitted a ticket last night around 10pm server time. Its 8:30am server time now and my ticket read "your ticket is being ..something something" ..then all of a sudden i get a gm survey and my ticket is gone. Thanks for making me wait for 8+ hours and then brushing my ticket off.

I would really appreciate an item restoration for Dogbyte on Garona server. I REALLY don't feel like spending months and months getting BiS items again. And spending copious amounts of dkp....again. And I REALLY don't feel like waiting another 8 hours to have my ticket brushed off in-game ...again.

oh and btw...I don't have any keyloggers on my pc. I've checked it with Avast, Kaspersky, AVG, Adaware, Spybot, and Superantispyware. I'm not stupid and I never clicked a phishing link. I never logged into the game..or the forums from any other computer than my own. But somehow my account was hacked and merged into a battle.net account without my email confirmation. And the customer service is horrible. I've actually spent the last week not playing wow and if I don't get my gear back I'll probably just continue not to do so.

thanks

My apologies, Dogbyte, but it appears that your character was displayed as offline when the Game Master went to speak with you.

It looks as if your information was forwarded on to our Specialist Department for investigation and restoration. An e-mail explaining this process was sent to your registered e-mail address, but I encourage you to review the following thread as well:

Account Compromise Info Center:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=14318909866&sid=1

All in all, it looks as if you're on the fast track to recovery. A member of our Specialist Department should complete your investigation within the next 1-3 days. If you have any questions between now and then, please be sure to let us know.

Thank you for your patience!

...sigh... no phishing sites, no phishing emails, no password the same as the guildsite (she changed it tons of times, especially since the first hack)... I am merely pointing out a fact of something that I see all around me. Battle.net seems to somehow compromise your account security, because all the hacks I recently heard about are somehow related to the account getting merged with battle.net.

And I'm not blaming Blizzard for not giving accounts back, that is not what I said, I'm gratefull for them doing that and investing time in it. Ofcourse they give people their account back, with recent hacks etc they would lose a lot of good paying customers if they wouldn't. But just before a discussion starts about that, as said that is not the point I wanted to make.

You hear about Battle.net now, in the same way they used to change the email or change the password so many times that it could not be recovered.

Really no different, and no matter what is done, if someone has managed to get their hands on the information required to do so, there is a security issue of some type.

Here a short summary of your respons, just to see if I completely get it or not, 'cause I don't know what you refer to exactly in my reply. You say that, just as it could be a security failure at Battle.net, it could also be a security failure of any other site or in any occasion on the internet where she logged in with her personal information. And once they have it, and know how to use it, she is basically lost and if they people who have it want to hack her, they can (as said just to make sure I get everything you said, because your message is not completely clear to me).

Ok true... word given, that could be also a cause of people getting hacked. But this 'gulf' of hacking actually started after the new big patch (3.2) and as far as I know ónly with people having Battle.net merging. And thát is what makes me think that it is somehow related to each other. Or is it something that I only see a connection with?

That's not true at all, Arp. WoW accounts are profitable to loot, they are low-hanging fruit and unscrupulous individuals will attempt to gain access as long as it is profitable. It won't be profitable once WoW players abide by our terms of service and stop creating a demand.
