Why isn't there an "appear Offline" option

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but it can't hurt to open the discussion up again.

For me, I've always wanted this. Don't get me wrong, I love the multiplayer aspect more than anything, but sometimes I just want to log on and not be bothered. Do my own thing without having to tell people to leave me alone.......The DND just tells people I'm avoiding them.

Pros:

Invisible to goldspammers

Won't be annoyed by that beggar

won't be annoyed by people that want you to run this instance

Won't have to tell me, no don't want to play with you

Cons:

?????

We don't particularly like the idea of people appearing as if they are offline because it would give the wrong impression that the world is empty when it's not. I know there are times when people just want a bit of solitude, and that's OK, but we don't feel there is a benefit to the game overall by allowing something like this.

*Just a quick edit and perhaps there are some that don't know this, but you can turn on DND and type a note after it so that other players are aware of your status. It helps you feel as if you're not being rude by ignoring them and they get a better understanding of why you're not answering without you having to say anything at all. Another trick that people do when they don't necessarily feel very sociable is to create a new window for all chat and "hide" it behind another window. This way, you can still periodically check to see if any of your friends have tried to contact you and still not feel as compelled to answer others.

I'm not encouraging people to be solitary, but there are ways to get some 'quiet' when you want it.

Q u o t e:

You don't play a main tank, do you? Or a healer?

Incorrect on your assumption. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. :) I get it. But, if you're having issues with what your guild expects of you, then it's something you need to work out with them. I doubt that them discovering you're actually around if you had such an option as being anonymous would help make the situation any better for you.

If I don't want to raid and I don't want to group, I don't. People are generally pretty understanding if they know you're just tired, you just want to finish that one more quest, that you just want to work on your fishing, etc. If they aren't then that's on them and not on you. No amount of in game tools are going to change that and again, it would make the world feel like a very empty place.
