Do you get triple xp when you refer a friend and they're on their 10 day trial or does the triple xp and summoning benefits only begin when they upgrade their account? I refered and we're not receiving the benefits and I don't want him to upgrade unless I know we're going to receive it.

In-game benefits (triple experience, summoning, and level granting) become available as soon as a trial account is created using a Recruit-A-Friend invitation key. This process establishes an account link which in turns makes characters on both the veteran and recruit account eligible for all the related amenities immediately.

Now, if you've verified that you are appropriately linked with another account and are not receiving triple experience, please ensure that you are meeting the following requisites:

Rule 1) Veteran and recruit character must partied and within 100 yards of one another
Rule 2) Mobs killed and quests completed must be marked neither "Low Level" nor gray in difficulty for either the veteran or the recruit character
Rule 3) Should one character be more than 4 levels higher than the other, only the lower level character will receive the experience boost. Rule 2 still applies.

Please also note that you may verify whether or not you are receiving triple experience by checking your Combat Log. The entry will appear as follows:
“Player gains ‘X’ experience (‘Y’ exp Refer-A-Friend bonus)”

The “X” value represents the total amount of experience gained, while the “Y” value represents how much extra experience is gained as a result of the Recruit-A-Friend promotion.

For example: If a monster is normally worth 25 experience (while partied) and you kill it, should you be eligible for triple experience, your Combat Log entry will appear as “Player gains 75 experience (50 exp Refer-A-Friend bonus)”.
