Character Aesthetics

I always felt that once you hit endgame, your character looks more and more similar to those of the same class and spec as you. Tabards and helm/cloak on/off are among the only ways to distinguish 1 character of similar high level gear from another.

I think when glyphs were first being talked about, the devs mentioned that some glyphs were meant simply for aesthetics. There are some that exist, like a Polymorph glyph that turns them into a different animal. I was expecting something like a glow effect on your characters hands, a halo for a priest, or something along those lines.

I'm just wondering if the devs plan on implementing some new gear slots or charcater effects to set one character apart from others. The Druid form changes are such an example. I do not have a Druid myself, but regardless I think that was an excellent move for greater character aesthetic diversity.

What ideas do you guys have? What would you like to see?

While we don't have any plans to implement any changes to the character aesthetics at the current time, we are always thinking of ways to make the game feel more unique and personalized for the player. It may come to pass that someday we will expand personalization through some means. Unfortunately, that time is not now and may not be for some time.

You have some interesting suggestions though; we'll make certain to pass those along to the development staff.

CRYGIL ADD RACE CHANGES NOW

Why no race changes? It seems like a reasonable question. I mean, we allow character re-customization where you can change your sex, right? We sure do, but we have good reasons for not supporting race changes, at this point in time.

Here are just a few of the reasons:

1) Critical Mass: People may decided that any given class/race combo is superior to other combination of that same class. Or people may decide that any given race is no longer worth sticking with due to some change we make to some racial abilities. This naturally leads to flavor of the month races. This is something we want to avoid.

2) Race Restrictions: All races are given a certain set of restrictions for both lore and balance purposes. There would be some serious investment involved in making certain that this system didn't allow any exploitation of that system.

3) Future Content: Things change, some would say the only thing that stays the same is change and that is certainly true for World of Warcraft. If we allowed race changes it could negatively/adversely impact things we haven't even thought of yet.

That said, it's not in the cards right now. Maybe someday we'll reverse our opinion on this, but it's likely to be a while.

No plans to implement changes to character aesthetics at this time? Does that mean you guys are scrapping the new dances slated to release with WotLK indefinitely?

Nope, I just wasn't counting that as a character aesthetic.

i hope they come soon then :)... human female dance is .... ugh

edit: also , crygil , i know its a policy to not release palns for future patchs so early

but what is the CHANCE ( maybe a %?) of us seeing the new dances in 3.2 or in 3.3

for example you could say:

3.2 - 75%
3.3 - 25%

JUST WONDERING

Unfortunately or Fortunately, depending on which side of the fence you're on, I like my job. So, I'm not inclined to divulge information on anything just yet. When the new dances are ready to go, we'll let you know.

There ya go, he just showed us one of the new dances. It's called "dancing around the answer" lol

although...it's not entirely new. That dance has worn a pattern on the floor of Blizz HQ :-P

Let's make a deal, you only ask questions that I can answer and I'll stop tap dancing around the questions I can't.
