Why does/nt Blizzard take polls.....

I cannot understand why Blizzard does not offer polls about ideas in their games. It just boggles my mind. What is so terrible about asking the community for what they would like to see in the game, and then vote on it? Am I missing something here?

Some people might think that doing polls and voting through the forums might mess things up. People can screw around, and put many votes in, and the outcome would be off. I think that Blizzard should put a one time vote in WoW, after you log in. I think that would work well. They could announce on their website and on the loading screens of WoW when they want to host a vote. This is just SOME way that Blizzard can get a feel for what the community wants. Make it mandatory to vote on something, much like reading the user agreement. It would not take long to vote at all.

This is a community based game, that does not reflect what the community base wants...

The problem with an idea like this is it comes down to what you are voting on. If we put up some poll of awesome crazy ideas, what happens if the one that wins is something we can't really do and would take years to pull off? Major disappointments.

Then the other side is we would have to make a poll of ideas that are fairly simple to implement and players feel that nothing in the poll is really that cool. And if they are simple to implement and we are willing to do any of the poll options, what happens when the others get done over time? Did the poll decide just what to do first? If so then was it really valuable?

We have and continue to consider this as an option for the forums but I can't guarantee it will ever happen.

That said, while some of them have been silly, the polls we have been doing lately have been providing some good feedback.

Q u o t e:
This is why I'd like to see polls BEFORE you develop the game. Take the new unannounced MMO you're developing for example. Why not some polls to determine what kind of pvp system players would like to see. That kind of stuff.

Polls can provide some great opinions, sure, but that doesn't meant they are great for game play. And nothing personal, if some people want to see something exactly like some other game, that doesn't sound too exciting to make. This still goes down the wrong rabbit hole unfortunately.
