Unable to level up during WOTLK trial??

I came to the understanding you could level up your characters during expansion,

right now im sitting ingame, max EXP with a "+XXXXX exp" (in the millions)

I am playing wotlk 10 day trial, did i not see some part where it says you cannot level up ? or is this a bug , or something special i must do to level up and get my new skills?

also while im asking here, where can someone train lockpick up past 350? Its maxed at 350 for me right now

One is only allowed to level up to the base of the expansion during a trial. As others have noted, you'd be locked out of that character otherwise should you not upgrade after the trial.

Lockpicking is based on level, the cap will automatically increase as you level up.
