So i was trying to log onto one of my world of warcraft accounts and it told me my account has been locked. So i check my email and i get this.

Greetings,

We have determined that the World of Warcraft account ********* has been accessed by someone not authorized to do so by the World of Warcraft Terms of Use (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html).

To protect your privacy and security, we have temporarily disabled this account. Any recurring subscriptions have been suspended to prevent further monetary charges. In order to regain access to the account, you must complete the steps below to secure the account and verify your identity.

Please note that account sharing is a violation of the World of Warcraft Terms of Use, which is in place to help players keep the accounts they play on secure. As such, we are unable to assist any player in regaining access to an account not created in his or her own name.

Please keep this email for your reference until the account recovery process has been completed.

STEP 1: SECURE THE ACCOUNT, YOUR COMPUTER AND YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS

We recommend you read over and apply the following tips to protect yourself and the account in the future. Account compromises can occur when a player shares login information with an unauthorized third party or plays on a computer that has a virus, Trojan, or key-logger.

- Keep your login information confidential. Account access can only be shared with one minor of whom you are the parent or guardian. Sharing access with anyone else is a violation of the game's Terms of Use. You are also responsible for every use of an account on which you are listed as the registered player, whether the use was authorized or not.
- Use up-to-date firewall, antivirus, and anti-spyware software to scan your system regularly for viruses, Trojans, and key-loggers.
- Keep your operating system and other software up-to-date and be careful when downloading new software.
- Be wary of "spoof" and scam websites and e-mails that pose as Blizzard Entertainment and request account or personal information. As a reminder, Blizzard Entertainment representatives will *never* ask you for your password.
- Use separate, unique passwords for your email, World of Warcraft, and any other online accounts.
- Change your passwords regularly and keep World of Warcraft account information updated using the Account Management page at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/.

If you are looking for an added layer of security, we currently offer the Blizzard Authenticator, an optional device that can help prevent unauthorized account access. For more information about how the Authenticator works or how to add one to a World of Warcraft account, please visit the Blizzard Authenticator FAQ at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/24660.

STEP 2: SUBMIT ACCOUNT RECOVERY DOCUMENTATION

Before we can restore access to this account, we must first verify that you are the registered player on the account. Please download the Account Recovery Form (http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/WoW/other/Account-Recovery.pdf), follow the instructions in the form, and then email, fax, or mail the form and required identification as directed.

If you are having difficulties downloading the form, reply to this message and we will send the file as an email attachment.

In order to view the form once it has been downloaded, you will need Adobe(r) Reader(r). You can download the latest version for free at www.adobe.com.

STEP 3: VERIFY YOUR SUBMISSION WAS RECEIVED

We will contact you with further instructions once we have processed your account recovery documentation. If you do not receive a reply within 48 hours of sending your submission via fax or email, please resend it and notify us by using this form: http://us.blizzard.com/support/webform-us.xml. If you mailed the submission, please allow time for delivery.

Only the Account Administration department can address questions you may have about the account recovery process. To learn more about how we are able to assist you, please visit us at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/21505.

Sincerely,

*******

i blanked out my username. So anyways i printed the sheet out and stuff and faxed the completed form with a copy of my US Passport to a number listed in the directions. But then i realized that i may have messed up when creating the account the year of my birthday. i think i remember doing so but at the same time its been so long. And the day time phone number may not match becasue i dont remember if i put my cell phone or my home phone. Would these two effect whether i would be able to recover my account? everything else is fine, just the year of birth and my home phone number.

The e-mail you posted is pretty much the recovery e-mail in its entirety. You were correct in faxing the Terms of Use form in to us.

We actually do not have your birth date on file, so we will not have one to match against in our records, we just need to confirm that you are an adult and thus eligible to have a World of Warcraft account.

As for the contact information; our form asks for your most up to date contact information be sent in with your proof of identification. Any data that may be out of date will be updated accordingly as long as we can verify you are the correct account holder so the phone number being an old one will not cause any issues with recovery :)

Q u o t e:

What if I am a minor? Would this effect anything? Like im a highschool student.

And i edited out the name of the blizz rep who emailed me. sorry

In order to have a World of Warcraft account you do have to agree to the Terms of Use and identify yourself as an adult.

If you are not an adult that could cause an issue with the account recovery. If the Account Administration department is unable to move forward with the Account recovery they will e-mail you to let you know what is required.

For your reference, if you are a minor the account should be in the name of your parent or guardian. Our Terms of Use form is the proper form to fill out when attempting to get the account updated into the name of a parent or guardian:

Terms of Use Form

If you are able to get your account recovered with the Account Administration department I would recommend getting that information filled out with your guardian and sending the Terms of Use form in. That way everything on the account is properly in line with our policies and there would be no concerns :)
