Frost Trap Nerf Logic

I still can't understand to this day why the frost trap nerf went in. The nerf I'm talking about is the one where when a target that runs over a frost trap is currently immune to snares, the trap does not go off at all. (EDIT: Farther down the thread posters and myself clarify that the trap vanishes with no effect, not that the trap just does not activate)

This to me this was a massive nerf to hunters, and buff to a class that is already imbalanced against us, lolrets. We are talking about an ability that is non-targeting, must be walked over to activate. I'm not sure of the mechanics, but I think the trap itself can be 'resisted' in addition to any resistance to the fire/frost/nature (lolsnake trap?who uses that?) the character may have for after effects.

The nerf of course, is that the snare immune character (or the warrior that just charged over the trap?) just wasted a 30sec (24 with talents) cooldown ability, and worse, it prevents our burst ability Lock n Load from procing.

TLDR: The frost trap nerf made the hunter class, an already weak class against Paladins, even weaker. I believe this is part of why we are not well represented in arenas this season. I can't even understand why it went in in the first place. Revert the nerf. As far as I am concerned, traps should ALWAYS activate, but a character can be immune or resist the effects.

Partially what we wanted to do was make sure it wasn't "wasted" on an immune target. It's hard to figure out the ideal solution here -- it seems like sometimes you'd want to trigger it anyway and sometimes you'd want to save it. I'm assuming you'd never want Freezing Trap to active on an immune target, so there's a consistency issue too.

Reverting it back to always going off on immune targets and just not affecting that target certainly isn't off the table.

I'll try to clear this up.

There are three ways Frost trap can react when an immune target triggers it:

1) Nothing happens. The trap does not go off and can go off later.

2) The trap fizzles. The trap is essentially dispelled.

3) The trap goes off. The immune target is not affected, but any of his friends still might be.

Now, which do you think would be most useful to the hunter and most fair to the enemy players?
