installer. Please close all programs and try again.

I've got this error message three days in a row now. I'm on the admin account, my internet connection is up and stable, obviously. I've tried to digitally download the game, and expansions, from this website. My account is in good standing.

I can download the actual software that downloads the game files, but when I use that program to download the game itself, I get that error message; here is the logged message that I've cut and pasted:

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Does anyone have any solutions? Thanks. I'll be checking this topic every so often today. All help appreciated.

Hello Yevonite,

I'm with Akido on this one, as usual. Looks like there's an issue with the Shared Æ’older. And as Akido stated, after making sure that the Shared Æ’older is located in your Macintosh HD => Users folder, reset the permissions. If the Shared Æ’older isn't present, create a new Æ’older on your desktop, name it: Shared and put it into the Users Æ’older, the system will ask for your admin password, to verify that you can put a Æ’older in there.

Hello Xenopeople,

Since this is the Mac Forum I would recommend posting your issue to the regular tech support forums, which are for PC users:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?sid=1&forumId=11110

All I can say, about PC install, is try installing in safe mode.

Hello Acannaria,

For patching issues try the following:

1. Select the World of Warcraft folder
2. press Command + i
3. in the World of Warcraft Info box, go to the Sharing & Permissions section
4. click on the lock and unlock it
5. make sure you have Read & Write permissions
6. click on the Burst icon ( cog wheel ) and select Apply to enclosed items**

** If using Mac OS 10.4.11, just click on the Apply to Enclosed items button.

About the downloaded installer:

Is this after the attempt to patch the game from the disk install ? And do you have any security programs running on your Mac ?

Hello Acannaria,

Thank you for the further explanation. Since the WotLK installer will install the 3 versions of WoW in one take, let's get rid of the previous data, they do sometimes conflict. It's the whole mixing disk installs with downloaded install, don't ask for specifics, they just don't like each other and this after countless hours of trying to figure out why, hehe.

Anyway lets get this game into your system and patched...

First let's get rid of the old data:

1. go to your Macintosh HD => Applications folder (or wherever you saved the game) and move your World of Warcraft to the Trash
2. go to your Macintosh HD => Users => Shared folder and move the Blizzard folder to the Trash
3. go to your Macintosh HD => Users => your account => Library => Preferences and delete any files associated with WOW:
(some files may not appear due to non-use)

- com.blizzard.downloader.plist
- com.blizzard.Downloader.prefs
- com.blizzard.errorreporter.plist
- com.blizzard.Installer.plist
- com.blizzard.launcher.plist
- com.blizzard.World of Warcraft.prefs
- com.blizzard.World of Warcraft.survey.prefs

4. empty Trash

To do the install:

5. download the WotLK installer (unless you did get the whole installer downloaded)
5. Run the installer to install the Wrath of the Lich King
6. patch to the latest version of the game

And again if any patching issue comes up, do that permissions reset we talked about above.
