GC's view on pvp balance

I read a post by GC that really made me wonder about the direction of pvp balance.

Q u o t e:
My point was that when you change a PvE ability, it usually only affects that class. When you change a PvP ability, it often affects multiple, perhaps all classes.

The intent I get from some posts is that some players assume that if their class is say 5% low in Arena representation that a simple buff might bring them up 5% and then everything is cool. But when they go up, nearly always other classes go up or down. You can buff a class indirectly by nerfing another one. Happens all the time.

Is this a regular means Blizzard uses to create class balance in pvp? I see huge problems in this. Yes, you can get representation in line with this line of thinking but that doesn't mean balance. Here's an example to help me explain what I'm trying to say...

Class A is horribly horribly overpowered.

Class B is their counter class.

Blizzard buffs class B, and now class A's representation drops to acceptable levels.

Now, class A is just as overpowered when class B isn't in the match, and underpowered when class B is in the match.... leading to arenas becoming more of a rock-paper-scissors match than something involving teamwork and skill.

I think the correct process would have been to change class A to be less effective overall but less counterable by class B.

Opinions?

This seemed like a reasonable topic but all of the responses after the OP were offtopic to the point of random. While we'd normally lock a thread like this, I'm going to try deleting everything and letting the conversation reset. We'll see if that helps.
