Grantable Levels - Recruit-A-Friend

OK, so i understand that when you recruit a friend, your friend, or the recruit has the ability to grant the veteran account, levels. I also understand that the recruit account receives a "grantable" level every two levels. I made a new toon to level with my friend. She is level 12 and I am level 13. She tried to grant me a level but the "Grant A Level" button was grayed out.

I'm guessing she has to upgrade to a full account? And trial accounts can't perform the action?
(My friend is on a trial account btw.)

Any help on this topic would be great.

As Aron has so gracefully stated, the Recruit who is granting levels is only able to grant levels to characters of a lower level. A character who is level 12 cannot grant levels to a character who is level 13; however, a character who is level 13 can grant 1 level to a player who is level 12. :)
