Cleave = 3's & 5's, *not* 2's

GC,

The term "cleave" came about in Season 3 to refer to a team that stacked melee classes in a 3's or 5's environment.

One does not have a "cleave" in 2's (according to general terminology). :(

I do NOT intend to be a term snob - thank you for the hard work you do, sir. Just wanted to clarify.

It's hard to keep Internet jargon constrained. A lot of players are using melee and cleave as synonyms, which I agree isn't a very precise definition. I'll probably just avoid using the term from now on.

Regardless, we do think certain types of melee are too well represented especially in the 2s bracket. We don't think this is a fundamental flaw with how casting works. We just think the caster escape mechanisms can't trump the melee closing mechanisms, which they need to sometimes.

Q u o t e:
as far as i'm concerned you're responding to the wrong complaints with what you said.

IDC that you called melee 2's teams cleave, it was obvious what you meant. i care that you said you're more focused on the 2's bracket, that's way worse than misusing or not knowing a term.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here, but I'll try again.

We think melee classes (specifically warriors, DKs, Rets and rogues) are too strong in PvP, especially in 2s. Typically these are 1 melee + 1 healer teams. Melee are still strong in 3s, but 5s are a lot more balanced overall. (And if anything, rogues are low in 5s.)

However, the community is much more focused on 2s right now, to the extent that a lot of players are making the assumption that when they say "Arena" you are supposed to understand they mean "2 vs 2."

I'm not concerned with misusing jargon. It's obvious from this forum that a lot of players are calling any team with melee on them "cleave teams." Other players are using that term in its more traditional sense of a team with 2 melee + 1 healer in 3s or more than that in 5s. It's not an official term in WoW so its definition is going to vary depending on who is using the term. This is why I said Blizzard should just probably avoid using it so as not to confuse people. I'd rather discuss the issue and not the label.
