RP Server Policing - Our Job Or Yours?

Dear Blizzard,

For the past four years, I've been an avid roleplayer on Steamwheedle Cartel. Over that time, we've had great highs and lows. However, it is becoming more and more apparent that while many roleplayers remain, we've been driven into hiding on our server by griefers and those unfriendly to roleplay.

We've petitioned violations of the Roleplay Server rules for years, with only the most meager of response and action taken. We've been told that the GMs will only be as strict as the server's population wants them to be, implying that we need to put in even more tickets just to get the service we were promised by the rules of the server we chose.

When a naming violation is reported, it should bear the same level of investigation as if hundreds had reported it. Violations are violations, after all. I'm pretty sure that if someone were running around calling themselves Robbpardo, it'd get taken care of pretty fast. It shouldn't be any different for Azzkickr, Marajade, Drizzit, Chucknorris or Demonicpower when they're reported.

When RP is harassed, those taking the action should not become repeat offenders. Instead, we have a population of griefers who blatantly ASK to be reported, because they know the GMs will take no action. Sadly, when reported, these people have been proven right. No action is taken. They continue the abuse, and more roleplayers are forced to take up sanctuary in private channels and roleplay in distant corners of the world, where they will go unnoticed by these types.

When roleplay has to go underground on a roleplay server, it's a bad thing for the community. New roleplayers won't find roleplay, because it's been pushed to places they cannot go. Eventually, they assume no roleplay is to be found, and either move on to another server, or give up on roleplay altogether. That too, is not good for the community.

Please help us.

We're burned out. We can't petition much longer. We need you to show us some signs of life.

(Edit: To clarify the point a bit.)

I see that there has been a great amount of discourse regarding the issues within this thread, and there has been some great information posted within.

So as not to confuse any topics that have already been discussed and answered satisfactorily, I'd rather ask if there is anything specific that still needs an answer.

Also, I'd like to refer everyone to the following threads which can be found in our "Customer Service Compendium" sticky:
