Character transfer to accnt w/ different name

My question is: Can I transfer my character from one account to another with a different last name? I've heard mixed reports. Some say you can for $25, others say that only pertains to those that share a same last name.

I'm deploying in 3 months to Iraq and won't be playing for atleast 1 year, not sure if I'll continue when I return. I want to give my Warrior to wife, so she can continue to play him while I'm gone. She opened her account long before we married, therefore we don't share the same account names.

I've put too much time into this character to just let him sit dormant for a year or more.

Accounts do indeed need to be registered to the same name in order to be eligible for a Paid Character Transfer between them. Additionally, please note that the sale, transfer, gifting, or trading of World of Warcraft accounts, characters, and/or items is against the Terms of Use -

On a side note, if your wife has had her name legally changed upon marriage and her account continues to be registered in her maiden name, we may be able to assist with getting that updated for her. If this is something that she would be interested, in please have her contact the Billing department by phone at her earliest convenience.
