Account Name Change/Character Transfer

About a year or so back I purchased my own WoW account once I had the money to do so and stop using my Step-Dad's--my legal guardian's--account. However, seeing as he is my step-dad, thus having a different last name than I do, I can't transfer the character I had from his account to my new account. Although they are both my account, one being directly mine and the other belonging to my legal guardian (as I am not eighteen until the end of the year), I cannot use my old character.

If there is a way to change the name on my account, or even his account, or better yet to just transfer my hunter from his account to mine and cut out the middle process that would be great.

Any information on this?
