Refer a Friend Using an Existing Trial Accoun

A friend had gotten a trial account card for buying a new PC. I talked him into creating a trial account and testing out WoW. After MANY nights of him calling me constantly w/ question and asking for help (I didn't mind, we were all noobs once), I had him convinced to a paid account.

I told him that first I wanted to refer him so I could get credit for the mount. That's when I found out that I have to send him the refer a friend link BEFORE he ever creates the trial account.

I'm now being told that he'll have to click the trial link that was emailed to him so that a NEW trial is created and in order for me to get credit for the referral. However, if he does this, he'll lose the character he's already created and leveled.

We thought about his updating his current trial and the new trial both to paid accounts so that he could then transfer his character to the new (referred) account. But that would require that he purchase 2 copies of WoW, instead of just one.

Anyone have any suggestions (other than his having to start over)? thx

It is not currently possible to link and existing accounts with the Recruit a Friend system. However, if your friend is willing to start over by creating a new trial account using the Recruit a Friend invitation you send him, you both would qualify for in game benefits that should help him re-level his character pretty quickly.

One example would be that both you and he could receive triple experience for all character up to level 60 for the duration of the 90 day Recruit a Friend link.

Detailed information regarding the benefits and restrictions of the Recruit a Friend system can be found on the following FAQ:

There are a few restrictions that would need to be met in order for either of you to receive the triple experience benefit. Please allow me to quote the FAQ as it provides a very clear explanation on the matter.

Q u o t e:

Do I always gain triple experience while I am linked to my recruit?
No. In order to receive triple experience, you must be partied with a character on a linked account and within 100 yards of one another. With this, both characters (veteran and recruit) must be present for each kill and quest completion.

Also, should monsters or quests be marked as "Low Level" or listed as gray in difficulty for either character, triple experience will not apply.

Is quest experience tripled, too?
Yes, but only if both veteran and recruit characters are present for quest completion and if the monster or quest is not marked as "Low Level" (typically gray in difficulty, though sometimes green) for either linked character.

Do our characters (my character and my recruit's character) have to be same level in order to receive triple experience?
No, but you must be within 4 levels of one another and meeting all other triple experiences requisites in order for both characters to receive triple experience. If this level requirement is not met, only the lower level character will receive the bonus.

For example: Should your character be 5 levels higher than your recruit, only your recruit's character will be eligible for triple experience (provided that all other requirements are met, as well).
