Macbook pro

not sure where to put this question.. i bought a mac book pro and used to use a dell laptop. as a healer i use the f1 -f5 keys to select characters to heal. with this laptop though it actually makes the screen brighter, dimmer, brings up widgets and such... if i press fn+f1-f5 it selects ppl. is there any way to get it so i only have to press f1 -f5 again? thx very much for your help
