I am wondering if this achievement is having any problems at the moment? I have completed so far about 4-5 dailies and the achiement tracker still registers as 0/5.
To date I have done the pvp daily (EotS), the Cooking daily, the Noble Garden daily (collecting egg shells) and just then the K3 Daily with land mines. Each time the orphan was out when accepting quest, and out when handing in. With the last daily (K3) I had the orphan present from start to hand in.
So thoughts any one?

As an update to this issue: I two-box quests at times (perfectly legit ppl thx) and this is one. I had both orphans out and on my mage it counted the quest I turned in and on my warlock it did not count the quest he turned in. So it seems to have nothing to do with a server restart or whatever, but a condition on the character/account or machine. Later I will switch machines and do another daily on warlock, if this fixes the issue I will update my post.
Note that the warlock also has zero addons running when I did this, so it was not that either. I had also tried different dailies and none brought my count up to 1/5.

Just a heads-up. The text of the achievement has not changed because that would require a patch. However, there are reports on the Bug reports forum that completing 5 daily quests with your orphan out grants the achievement.

Daily Chore - Yeah I did 6 daily quests with my orphan out and got no credit. I even went and got myself a new Orphan just incase mine was broken. So now we are down to 5 daily quests in 6 days and that's only if they fix it.
Home Alone - Yeah did this one 5 or 6 times, got credit for it each time, but then it resets itself and you have to do it again.
This world event has been a real failure and nothing but one frustration after another.

A friend has reported that Home Alone is still bugged after our realm (Bronzebeard) restarted. Chores appears to be fine.

Home Alone is happening every time he or anyone else hearths, not just when they log out and come back.

Keranna's friend here. I just hearthed Alliance side bank to Alliance inn in Dalaran and didn't (re)get Home Alone, so it appears to be fixed, at least if you're not zoning while doing it.
When I did have it happen I was hearthing from UP to Dalaran, after the restart. However, I was in UP before the restart and had not zoned out and back in after the restart, so possibly that has something to do with it.
