Q u o t e:
We will be performing maintenance for all realms on Tuesday, April 21st. The downtime will begin at 3:00AM PDT and end at approximately 11:00AM PDT.

Thank you.

As always, this is a golden opportunity to update your scanning software and do all the little maintenance chores on your systems that will keep them purring throughout the next week.

Tuesday recommended reading list.

Psst, guys?

If you have a talent spec you really love, just a word to the wise, write it down, screen shot it for posterity, or otherwise record the way you like them.

That is all :)

Oh, and before I forget, we are also expecting a good bit of web maintenance today.

So the Armory, web-services and these forums will be inaccessible at times.

APPARENNTLY THE CENSORSHIP POLICE ARE ON THE JOB

WHERE is our compensation for this? servers down for half the week they go down again even after the patch and all we get is a single DAY

There has never been compensation for normally scheduled maintenance. That's part of the natural order of things, and yes - it's always been on a Tuesday.

Excuse me, I'm talking to the GM there, not you. I don't care about your threats by proxy.

My post was medical knowledge based on actual experience with the subject matter, I'd post it again for verification but whoops, it's 'disrespectful'

I dislike editing or deleting posts, I dislike being forced to suspend or ban players from these forums even more. This is being handled, just no need for speculation.

Seriously, why do you have to spend the first part of your post threatening me instead of explaining the rest of it in a civil matter?

If you're surprised about having to edit posts, it's because you give no warning. I don't know that you're going to edit a post before you do it.

We have a forum code of conduct, Tal. No warning should be necessary.

Guys, stop it, stop it now.

Please don't make me turn this thread around and go home - cause you know I will.

I'm actually toying with the idea of a batch of cream puffs.

Been a long time since I've made those.

/drool

Trade you an Anzac cookie for a cream puff?

Cream puff part is actually pretty easy, it's deciding what to fill them with that's hard.

Pudding, ice cream - I've on occasion even used them as a bowl filled with beef stew.

lol, no I wasnt imagining them all together, but they were all mentioned together, and after thinking of a ice cream cream puff or a pudding fulled cream puff, a beef stew cream puff, just doesnt sound very..... appealing or appatizing..

Oh, those are just some of the things I've filled them with over the years :)

Q u o t e:
Will this maintenance be addressing the stuck character/talent point glitches? Or is it just some other type of maintenance?

There are a number of issues to be addressed - hence an actual patch, but which ones precisely I am not sure. There are normally patch notes, once you download the patch that should be more specific.

Well in that case is a new patch forthcoming? I mean they just released 3.1... Even so I really hope these issues get resolved soon, characters causing my network to crash are extremely frustrating.

3.1.1 should be downloading this morning at some point.

Seriously though, i play on an oceanic server, and maintenance shutdown used to occur at 10-11pm realm time (which happens to coincide with my local time - AEST) which was fine. Lately though they've been occuring at 8pm, right in the middle of prime gaming time, thanks blizz great move, what gives?

When the realms are in maintenance mode for longer periods of time - they are all taken offline together and processed together.

Shorter rolling restarts we do try to stagger.

If the scheduled maintenance list is shorter, they do schedule this a bit later so as not to be as directly in the middle of Oceanics primetime.

Trust me, working the shift I do - I pretty much live on Australian time. This is MY primetime as well, I do understand - but this is all necessary work to enable the realms to be up and happy the rest of the time.

Quick heads up folks, authentication may be unavailable here in a bit.

You might get disconnected from the forums, or be unable to log back in if you are for a period of time.

Q u o t e:
Any idea if were really getting talents reset again?

As of the last word I received on the subject, yes, there should be talent resets.
Q u o t e:

while there are and can be 'random' problems that occur, when there extended maintenances have to be extended week after week, patch after patch, then the pattern leans more towards things not being tested versus random problems

Except that it hasn't been week after week =(.

Some maintenance requires extended downtime, and these are the events that get remembered. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, it's easy to forget the many weeks where we get by with rolling restarts, or maintenance that terminates early rather than late.

In this case, patch 3.1 is the largest and most ambitious patch that we have ever released. While we implemented very extensive internal testing, as well as Public Test Realm testing, there are some issues which simply will not become evident until a patch is released 'into the wild' and hundreds of thousands of players are making use of it simultaneously.

In the case of this maintenance, sometimes something unanticipated is discovered that requires immediate attention, and events of this nature can extend the time a planned maintenance takes. Obviously, these aren't ideal situations, but such matters simply can not be ignored and must be resolved. We are only sorry to ever have to close the realms at all.

The last thing we want is to make anyone unhappy. The entire point of these patches is to improve World of Warcraft, after all! We are truly, deeply sorry to those that have been frustrated or inconvenienced, but we will continue to work hard to ensure an experience that is as smooth as we can make it.

As before, if you feel that this downtime merits compensation, then the appropriate place to request it is via our Suggestions forum.

So you or the devs don't even know what's being 'patched'? Both?

I related the best information I have. This does not account for potential last minute changes.

You are able to take advantage of your posting privilege to post here. Your abusive tone is not welcome, however, and will be considered trolling should you persist.

Q u o t e:
This week and last week doesn't count as week after week?

I was rather referring to months of maintenance, not these last two weeks. It is, after all, abundantly obvious that there was a patch installation last week, and extended maintenance plus patching this week.

Q u o t e:
Where are new players told, before they enter their credit card info, that they will be locked out of the game all day once a week?

This is actually covered in the Terms of Use section 14, now that you ask:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html
Q u o t e:

Another thing that really isn't fair is bring up some servers 1-2 hours before the rest...last time I checked you take 15 dollars out of my bank account just like you do to everyone else and I want the same opportunity to play as they do.

Every realm and battlegroup is brought up as soon as it reasonably can be. No favoritism is shown toward any particular realm or battlegroup. I apologize if this comes as a surprise.

If you feel that available realms should be locked until all realms which are still down become available, you may request that via our Suggestions forum.
