Blue posts of imminent value to new servers...
Q u o t e:

Generally speaking, new realms are created when we feel there is a need for them. We assess this need based on what happens with the population as a result of these larger patch releases since that is when we generally will see a resurgence of players returning to play. We're not at a point right now though to share whether new realms will be warranted and we don't generally announce new realms until they are available for players or transfers.

This is from Neth on Monday, so we can take this as "they have new realms under consideration:. Additionally, we have this post from Crygil on Wednesday

Q u o t e:

Thank you for all of the reports. It appears these issues are due, in large part, to the incredible popularity of the Ulduar instance itself. The massive amounts of the instance being created are causing instance blades to be overwhelmed. We will continue to work on alleviating the situation. We appreciate your patience and continued feedback.

A basic discussion on positive/negatives of new servers from an economic standpoint from Blizzard

A) The servers dont pay for themselves. A new server costs x dollars to buy and y dollars to operate per z months. So, in this case, X + Y(Z) > RaF accounts created + server maintenance for overburdened servers + cost of additional down time and tech support. I might be missing some variables here, but this seems pretty decent

B) The servers dont disperse the population properly. A new non-xfer server allows ANYONE to roll on it and the people rolling on it arent from the desired demographic (High/Locked realms). Maybe most of the people rolling are from low-pop realms, yikes! New Xfer servers let em control where people go, making it a more logical choice (only offer high pop/locked servers)

Those two are the only real conclusions I could really reach... the positives to new servers seem quite obvious... additional RaF revenue, renewed subs, population dispersion, happier customers on queued realms (assuming queues are lessened), server xfer cash (people xferring over there old mains) etc.

Maybe I'm missing some important data, maybe I'm not. Looking at it from this perspective is at least interesting though!

For the record and to ensure there isn't any confusion, we have no plans to create new realms at this time. We created several news since Wrath of the Lich King launched and feel we are at a good level right now.
