I suspect this has a lot to do with it. Also consider there are relatively few tanks per raid, and they are always assigned strict roles. Usually two tanks do not compete to see who can be the best one the way healers and dps might. A group's usual MT is probably less likely to be denied a raid spot than many other players.
Though that forum can get ugly just like the rest of them when someone thinks they aren't being heard or are the victims of injustice.
