Gearing for uldar 10

okay i might be slightly confused but wasn't the point of putting a 10man and a 25man version of all the raids to aid guilds without the man power for the 25 mans? in my guild we have an unusually hard time getting 25people together for naxx25 and pugging has proven to be alot of fail. but we have pretty much deck'd ourselves out in full naxx10 gear. we tried uldar on saturday and got faceroll'd by the first trash after levathion(sp?)and then rollled a bunch more on the boss's. so am i to understand that we need to be in full naxx25 gear to be in uldar 10? and if yes doesn't this sort of defeat the point of having 10 and 25 man raids?

No, Ulduar was designed so that players in full tier 7 gear, or the equivalent, should be able to reasonably progress through its normal version. You should see some good gear upgrades as you advance as well. That said, the room for error may not be substantial. You'll need to work out some good strategies for taking down the bosses and trash pulls, but it's possible and reasonable in tier 7.

"It's possible to take down trash and bosses if your raid is in T7."

Thank god. If T8 was required to take down the trash and bosses then we would be in quite a pickle!

As opposed to tier 7.5....

This is kind of backwards designing IMO.

Based on the feedback we've received ever since players starting working through Naxxramas, I would say a good portion of the player base disagrees with you. Players felt the game lacked challenge. We knew that the next raid tier would raise the bar a bit, much to the satisfaction of committed raiders.

Q u o t e:
Where is/are the new 5mans? How do you not add a new 5 man?

We are looking to add some new 5-player content. Patch 3.1 was already one of the biggest patches we've ever released content-wise though, and adding a 5-player dungeon into the patch would've only further delayed it.

Q u o t e:
So what's left... ? nothing, unless you enjoy farming the new dailies!!!

I suspect a lot more players would be asking what's left if we fostered the expectation that Ulduar should be reasonably conquered in pick-up groups within six days of its release. Will it be possible to pug Ulduar? Absolutely, provided the pug is hip to the strategies and is reasonably geared. Is it realistic to expect the instance to be puggable a week after it's released? No. Each new tier of raiding will be more difficult than those prior, yet you'll still see all raiding tiers in Wrath of the Lich King more accessible to a larger percentage of the player base than ever before in World of Warcraft's history.

Q u o t e:
How about PVP Blizzard? Could you just give those players who grinded BGs for 4+ hours a day some GOOD ITEMS again?

There are a lot of good things coming for battlegrounds in an upcoming content patch.

Q u o t e:

Lack of developer understanding of player base is destroying this game.

There are so many things we'd like to add to the game purely based on what we see players doing every week, as well as to meet our own goals for what we feel would be further shaping the best game possible. Every patch it comes down to choosing our focus to progress the game, as video game design takes quite a bit of time. It's rare to see a game expanded upon so thoroughly in a patch cycle, but World of Warcraft players have grown accustomed to seeing new content every major patch, and we will continue to deliver what we think will make this game better.

So you're implying that 10man guilds should be pugging 25man Naxx in order for them to be able to do 10man Ulduar? That makes so much sense!

I didn't only imply, but stated the exact opposite in my original response.

If you're reading anything into this response though, you are correct in figuring I'm now implying you read what I've written thus far.

I don't think blizz wants you guys pugging ulduar because PUG is a mass movement that will strain their server resources. I think, at most, they only want 5% of the player base to set foot in that place.

That has nothing to do with it, nor is that our philosophy.

Q u o t e:
Blizz is a economic entity guys, they're not there to make people happy. They exist to generate more profits which means cutting costs (less server strain for new content by making it really hard) and increasing revenues (easy raid content at the start of the expansion to get more people to subscribe and buy the expansion).

Of course there are folks at Blizzard focused on the longevity and health of the company. That means doing what's right for business.

That said, and there is a very clear distinction here, developers don't come into work everyday thinking of ways to make the company more money. They're here because they're passionate about games and want to continue to iterate upon WoW for the better, which means a symbiotic relationship exists between the company and the people who enjoy the games we create.

You seem to view business as having a parasite <-> host relationship with customers, but that's not true in many cases, and never so simply defined.

If you have 10 COMPLETELY game competent players with thier full attention and the correct add ons without random errors popping up on your screen at different times, with none of them smokers and a 2 liter bottle of Mountain Dew next to them, with no lag spikes or dcing, with the exact raid buffs and elixers flasks you need ulduar is definetly doable in best in slot 10 man gear.

Fixed. :p

Does it count if it's only 1 liter?

First 1st! =)

1 liter? You might as well be drinking warm milk. I'll be sure to test it on my wrist before giving you the bottle. ;p

New raid instance in 3.2 named Mail. Raid your mail box once a week by right clicking on it. Here you will find epic epics.

Giving out information about unreleased content is a no no. :p
