4/24 -- I upgraded my video card drivers (ATI) to see if it would help the lag I've been getting everywhere since the last patch. Game play afterward seemed better.

4/25 -- Wow crashes a few times over a few hours. I reinstall the video drivers, and the crashes continue.

4/26 -- Played fine for about 6 hours, then the crashes started again. A few more re-installs, and finally reinstall the original drivers, but the crashes still continue.

Now that I look at the error messages more, I suspect that the video driver may be a red herring.

This application has encountered a critical error:
ERROR #134 (0x85100086) Fatal Condition
Program: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Wow.exe
Failed to read file Tileset\Winterspring Grove\WinterspringSnowRipple.blp.
Debug Details:
[2] err=0 text=SFileReadFile - Tileset\Winterspring Grove\WinterspringSnowRipple.blp - Data\common.MPQ
[1] err=0 text=LoadSectorTable failed
[0] err=5 text=Win32 Read - Data\common.MPQ
Storm Error Msg:Reached the end of the file.

The interesting thing is that the file that it failed to read is different each time.

All but one of those occurred while I was walking around in Dalaran. The one for ZD occurred while I was hovering in flight form at the entrance to Naxx.

Winterspring?! I have no idea how long it's been since I was last in Winterspring!

Any ideas what is causing this and what I can do about it?

Hello Ald,

Please close down WoW and remove the WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders from the World of Warcraft game directory. These folders contain temporary data and frequently altered files that may have become corrupted. This will also remove any custom UI's that may contribute to the problem as well.

You can move these folders to the desktop or another directory if you wish to retain the data, however for now please start WoW without those folders present. Also do not use any third party programs to start WoW; often some custom UI's will place a shortcut for you to start WoW from, please use the (Launcher.exe) in the World of Warcraft directory.

If the issue locks you out of a single character then log into a different character and go into the video options and turn view distance to its lowest setting. Then try loading the affected character.

Please try the steps at the following website:
http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21026

These are designed for a different but similar error.

If those steps fail to resolve your issue please post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste the dxdiag file into your reply.
