Yogg-Saron Loot

So Ensidia recently finished up Ulduar by killing Yogg Saron, giving us our first glimpse at Yogg-Saron loot. His loot, on the easy mode, is apparently the same item level as all the other bosses in Ulduar. That's right, you don't get better loot for killing the last boss in the instance like you did with Kel'Thuzad.

This is an absolute slap in the face to casuals. Now the only way to get higher item level gear than is found on the initial encounters is to do the hard modes. This is unacceptable. Why should casuals not get a chance at slightly higher item level gear on Yogg-Saron? Actually, I don't even like the idea of better loot for hard modes in the first place. Give hardcores their titles, but IMO casuals should have access to ALL of the same gear that hardcores do.

With all the hard modes in Ulduar we felt it would be a better way to distribute the higher level gear. We want to reward players for completing the hardest content and not provide just a mount each time.

Q u o t e:
So are you implying that Yogg Saron isn't intended to be a hard encounter unles you try it on hard mode?

The normal and most basic mode is something we want to be beatable by players. We want it to be fairly accessible and doable, not M'uru.

Q u o t e:
Thats kind of bunk game design. Why not reward players with the satisfaction of beating a challenging boss instead of reducing the difficulty so you can rain down more mediocre loot.

If the boss is really difficulty, it significantly cuts down on the number of people who get to see the content we worked really hard on.

Q u o t e:
Don't abuse hard mode mechanics and hide behind them. Something is wrong if the C'thun of Wrath is dead within 2 and a half days of the patch going on a server. It's saying something still when a lot of instance servers aren't even working on some realms.

The server issues you mentioned are not related to the encounter itself either, lets stay on topic here.

If the "C'thun of Wrath" is beatable by some really good guild who are coordinated and focused in 2 and a half days, we are okay with that. It is working as intended and not quite a bugfest as C'thun killers can attest to.

While we want the easiest mode to be accessible, we don't feel it needs to drop the best loot. Come back with fewer watchers helping when you want the best items in the game and a little bit of pain in wiping a lot. :)

Bugfest... Silithids.... haha... oh, nevermind.

Pun is working as intended.

This doesn't mean make it impossible but you could certainly apply some challenges.

M'uru was not impossible, just bang your head against the wall challenging. There definitely are challenges in Ulduar too. A lot of the guilds taking bosses down spent time on the PTR to learn them ahead of time and if you want additional challenges there are hard modes available.

Q u o t e:
I think you missed my point. It's not a complaint that the servers are having issues, I'm pointing out that if they were NOT having issues, who knows how many guilds would have this boss down.

That is very much on topic. The only thing that's throttling this content being cleared within a week is the fact that some people can't get into the instances.

Sorry for the misinterpretation, but this isn't an issue. Very few players are taking on the hard modes and we are happy to see a lot of people in the instance and able to see/enjoy the content.

Q u o t e:
So what are these really good guilds going to do in the mean time? Wait 6 months for another raid to show up to finish in a couple days?

Probably things similar to what they have done for the last couple of months, high end guilds tend to be pretty used to having content on farm status.

Q u o t e:
When a really good guild who bothers to write out some strategies finishes these encounters, you'll start seeing mediocre to below average guilds finishing out the content. I'll wager 100 dollars over paypal that by May 7th we'll start seeing full clear Ulduar pugs.

We look forward to seeing more players enjoying this new instance.

Q u o t e:
Nevermind the loot. The loot it drops is fine. So far the mace has the highest top end damage of any weapon in the game and the item budget is spent pretty well.

The problem is depending on hard modes to provide challenge instead of building any scale of challenge into the basic fights.

Unless your intention is to machine gun content at us from here on out, things are going to go stale really quick.

We will continue to provide content as quickly as we can, but my personal guess is that it will continue to come out at the same rate it has been coming out for years.
