"Pristine Hide of the Beast" all over again

Those of you who have been playing since the time when Upper Blackrock Spire was an "endgame instance" will recall that once a week (at least) these forums had entertaining threads discussing who was entitled to keep the "Pristine Hide of the Beast" if it was skinned from the Beast.

Skinners, who required Finkle's Skinner to even skin the Beast, claimed that they should be able to keep it, and sell it on the AH. Everyone else, who needed it to craft some bit of epic gear, claimed that everyone should roll on it, because the skinner would not have been able to skin it in the first place without the help of the raid. And all of this assumes that the Pristine Hide was even skinned at all, since it wasn't 100% drop rate.

Now, it appears that engineers can "tinker" mechanical corpses in Ulduar, and have a chance to obtain one of the parts used in crafting the Mechanohog/Mekgineer's Chopper. These parts are normally purchased from a vendor for between 1000-3000g (depending on what the part is).

Mark my words, it is not going to be very long before we start seeing weekly threads about whether or not engineers should get to keep these non-BoP parts, or the rest of the raid wanting to roll on them. I look forward to the entertainment. ;)

I personally don't really get this. When I see someone mine a vein, I don't ask for the loot because I was nearby. But you best believe that if I have the profession that can get the loot, it is mine!

So bornakk just admited that if he was a skinner he'd have ninja looted the hide of the beast?

I would share it with other skinners, may the best roll enjoy it.

Don't you at least see the parallel to enchanting shards? Do you also think the enchanter should keep those if he's willing to give the group the gold the item would've sold to a vendor for?

This is a little different because if I don't have enchanting, I can still get something out of the item (gold via vendor). If you can't skin something you get nothing out of it, so in those odd cases where there are no miners and no skinners, the mob just rots.

If the enchanter doesn't want to pile up the items, disenchant them all, then share shards, then I roll to get the item to vendor it. I agree that I don't want his shards, but a lot of items drop and I feel like I should get something out of the ones nobody wants. If the enchanter gives 1 to each person in the group and gets 2 for him/herself, that's fine with me, I just want something to make me not feel shorthanded.

Usually if I know there is going to be a sharding battle like this ahead of time though I prefer to find another group.
